Patient Safety: Keeping Medicare Consumers Safe “Freedom from accidental injury; ensuring patient safety involves the establishment of operational systems and processes that minimize the likelihood of errors and maximize the likelihood of intercepting them when they occur.” (Kohn)

We can help our health care providers do just that.

In the 9th Scope of Work, Quality Insights will collaborate with hospitals and nursing homes to address areas of patient harm for which there is evidence of how to improve safety by improving health care processes and systems. Through collaboration and group sharing of best practices and lessons learned, our state’s hospitals and nursing homes can join together to achieve a common goal – the improved health, well-being and safety of their patients.

Patient safety activities will focus on the following areas:

Reducing the incidence of MRSA infections
• Reducing the incidence of pressure ulcers in hospitals and nursing homes
• Reducing the incidence of physical restraints in nursing homes
• Improving inpatient surgical safety and heart failure treatment in hospitals
• Improving drug safety
• Providing quality improvement technical assistance to nursing homes in need
