Introducing a New Approach to Quality Improvement in Pennsylvania

We have great news.

Quality Insights of Pennsylvania is continuing to work with providers and PA communities to improve health care quality as part of Quality Insights Quality Innovation Network, a new Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) chartered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The new network is comprised of five states (Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Delaware, New Jersey, and Louisiana) and became effective on August 1, 2014.

We are encouraging providers and community organizations to become participants in many new and exciting, data-driven QI programs designed to improve clinical care and patient safety in our state and across the network.  Learn more about how to benefit from our work related to:

  • Practice transformation
  • Lean methodology
  • QI innovation
  • Cardiac health
  • Diabetes self-management education
  • Health information technology
  • Hospital infections
  • Healthcare acquired conditions
  • Care coordination
  • Value based purchasing programs

And experience the advantages of CMS’ new approach to the QIO program.

QIN-QIOs are part of CMS’s restructuring of the QIO program to improve care for beneficiaries, families and caregivers. Historically, CMS issued 53 QIO contracts, one for each state and territory, to provide both case review and quality improvement support services. The new structure is regional and establishes two groups of QIOs—one group for quality improvement (QIN-QIOs) and one for Medicare quality of care complaints and appeals (Beneficiary and Family Centered Care QIOs).

By focusing exclusively on quality improvement and technical assistance as a QIN-QIO, we believe we can most effectively support CMS’ three-part aim of better care, better health and lower costs.

Being part of a larger network QIN allows us to share knowledge, leverage combined resources, and maximize the positive impact of our cumulative efforts -- while still being able to serve our health care communities locally.

Quality Insights staff, including many who assisted you under the previous QIO program, are available to facilitate your participation in QIN network activities, provide individual consultation on quality projects, and directly support your ongoing quality initiatives or collaborations.
